How to Care for Your New Spray Tan
Pre and Post Care
Our spray tan specialists will consult with you first on your ideal results, choosing the appropriate solution for your skin type. Please inform your specialist of any skin issues or trouble spots you may have had with other sunless tanning products.
The Day Before Your Spray Tan
- Make sure you're hydrating your skin days before your spray tan. Drink that high-quality H2O!
- Shower, shave, and wax at least 12 hours before your spray tan.
- Make sure you exfoliate your skin with a Dermasuri mitt (available at Hella Tan's online store or salon) or a mitt of your choice to remove any dead skin. This will prevent a blotchy tan, as exfoliating promotes even coverage and lengthens the duration of the tan.
- Moisturize your skin before you go to sleep.
- Avoid Dove products!
The Day of Your Spray Tan
Before your spray tan, be sure to remove any deodorant, lotion, perfume, or makeup. Wear something dark and loose after tanning (no leggings or jeans).
After Your Spray Tan
- Wait at least six to eight hours to shower (two to four hours with express tan).
- Rinse with warm water.
- Do not apply any makeup, lotion, perfume before your first shower.
- Do not shave at least 12 hours after your spray tan.
- Avoid Dove soaps and moisturizers.
- Also avoid lotions free of mineral oils, perfumes, or anything alcohol-based.
- Virgin coconut oil and shea butter are the best for after-care lotions. Hempz lotion is great, too.
- For the first shower, just rinse off with warm water--no soap needed!
- Always shave with a new razor after a spray tan.
- Pat your skin dry after showering.
- You have NO sun protection with any airbrush spray tan. Please wear your sunblock!
- Be advised that fresh airbrush tanning solution will stain nylon, silk, wool, and leather.
